SEO Cartograph — Desktop app guide

The SEO crawler that runs on your machine: audit a site end to end — technical, content, semantic linking — then export deliverables ready to present.

Windows app Bilingual EN / FR Version 1.0
FREN

This guide covers everything: from install to your first audit, each tab in detail, exports and reports, up to tips for crawling stubborn sites. Keep it handy — the table of contents on the left takes you straight where you want.

1

Install & activation

Run SEO Cartograph Setup.exe and follow the wizard. Installation is standard — the wizard shows in French or English depending on your Windows language. No key is asked at install time.

The activation screen

On first launch, the app asks for an activation key. It is bound to this computer (one device per key).

  • You have a key (format XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX): paste it, click Activate. It's instant.
  • You don't have one: click ✨ Sign up and get my free key. Signing up is free and gives you a key.
🔑
One entry only. The key is entered only here, when the app opens — never in the installer. To use your license on another PC, open 🔑 Sign inDeactivate this device, which frees the key.

Choosing the language

The app detects your Windows language on first launch. To switch manually: gear (top) → Appearance section → Langue / Language → Français or English. The interface, next exports and next reports follow the chosen language.

2

Your first crawl

  1. Enter the site URL in the top field (e.g. https://example.com).
  2. Click ▶ Start. The crawl begins immediately and fills live — pages appear as they're found.
  3. When it finishes, every tab is ready: issues, technical, mapping, etc. The crawl is saved automatically (see the Projects tab).
You can run up to 3 crawls in parallel. They run in the background; click a crawl in the left list to display it. A crawl can be paused then resumed from where it stopped.

Deliver into a folder

The 📁 Delivery button picks the delivery folder for the next crawl. When it finishes, the app drops the analyses, the full PDF, the Excel and the sitemap there automatically. Each crawl has its own folder — handy to sort by client.

🛡️
Site blocked at startup? Some sites (Cloudflare, firewalls) refuse bots. The app detects it and shows "How to allow the crawl". See Tips & troubleshooting.
3

Crawl settings

Click the gear ⚙ Crawl settings (next to the URL field) to adjust behavior. These apply to the next crawl; 💾 Default remembers them for all following ones.

SettingWhat it does
Speed (req/s)Requests per second. Lower it if the server throttles you (see 429/503).
WorkersParallel requests. More = faster, but more aggressive on the target server.
Max pagesCap on pages to explore. 0 = unlimited (within your plan's limit).
Max depthClicks from the home page. -1 = unlimited.
User-AgentThe crawler's identity: Chrome (recommended), honest Bot, Googlebot, or custom.
URL filtersExclude patterns (e.g. ?utm, /tag/, page=) or only include a path (e.g. /blog/). One-click suggestions for common traps are offered.
JS renderingRuns the page's JavaScript (Wix, React, JS-only sites). Slower — enable it if few pages are found.
Image weightMeasures each image's weight (1 request/image, slower).
Check external linksTests the status of outbound links (broken links) in a post-crawl phase.
Custom extractionGrabs a specific piece of data on each page via a CSS / XPath / Regex selector → becomes a column in the export.
🧭
Default settings: touch nothing for a first audit. Chrome + moderate speed suit the vast majority of sites.
4

The 8 tabs

Once the crawl is done, everything reads in these tabs. Some analyses (mapping, links) run on demand — the 🚀 Analyze all button (in Overview) chains them in one go.

🏠

Overview

The crawl dashboard: Priority action plan (fixes ranked by severity × volume, clickable), key figures (indexable, redirects, errors, average time), HTTP status distribution, depth, and "Site intel" (detected CMS).

🔗

URLs

The table of all pages. Filter by status, search, and choose the column set (All / SEO / Essential / Technical). Click a row to open a page's detail sheet (metas, titles, hreflang, links, images, structured data, inbound sources).

⚠️

Issues

Over 50 issue types, sorted by severity (critical / important / minor) and by group (Response, Content, Indexation, Linking, Technical…). Each issue has a "What it is / How to fix" sheet. Click one to see the affected pages.

🔧

Technical

The site audit: HTTPS, http→https redirect, mixed content, robots.txt, sitemap.xml, structured data, trailing slash, AI bots (allowed?), llms.txt. 🔄 Re-analyze site refreshes the probes live.

🗺️

Mapping

AI-powered internal linking. Sub-tabs: 🧩 Cocoons (topical grouping), 🕸️ Orphans (pages with no inbound link), ◌ Off-cocoon, 🔗 Links/page, 🕸 Web (interactive map). Click 🧩 Analyze to derive it.

📚

Keywords

The lexical field: the dominant terms of your content and their frequency. ⚠️ Density is not a Google ranking factor — write naturally. Useful to check vocabulary, not to chase a %.

🎯

Consistency

Do the title, URL, H1 and content talk about the same subject? 100% local, no target keyword: it measures each page's internal consistency and shows the missing terms.

🧷

Resources & links

Checks that all your links exist — pages, images, PDFs, documents, external — and lists the broken ones, sorted by page to fix. Click 🔍 Analyze links. Functional links (cart, login) are kept separate.

🧩
Mapping focus — clean the map. The menu and footer, repeated everywhere, are automatically excluded from editorial linking. To refine, the "🚫 Exclude zones" field + the Suggest button propose the navigation blocks actually detected on the site (e.g. site-footer, nav): one click, Apply, and the map recomputes without re-crawling.
5

Projects & comparison

Switch to Projects (top): every finished crawl is archived there, grouped by site. Open a project to reload an old audit, or pick a specific run from the dropdown.

Compare two crawls (before / after)

The ⇄ Compare button contrasts two crawls of the same site: pages added / lost, changed statuses, issues resolved vs appeared. Ideal to show a client the work done between two passes (tracking / retainer).

💡
When you reopen a project whose last audit is old, the app suggests a re-audit: a site moves (new pages, 404s, positions), and a regular check spots what changed.
6

Exports

The Export ▾ menu (inside a crawl) offers several formats. Everything is also dropped in the project folder — no system dialog needed.

FormatContentsFor…
CSVAll pages + an "issues" column.Raw spreadsheet, quick sorting.
ExcelPages sheet + 1 sheet per issue type + broken links + linking + keywords.Delegating: one sheet = one task.
Text (JSONL)Full text of each page.Feeding an AI / NLP.
Sitemap.xmlOnly clean indexable pages.Submitting to Google Search Console.

The full Deck

📦 Full deck runs every analysis then generates all at once: full PDF audit + preview (first contact) + semantic mapping + resources & links + full Excel. Named, distinguishable files, ready to send.

7

PDF reports

The Report button opens the choice of PDF report type:

  • First contact — 1 page: score + key figures + what stands out + call to action. Great for prospecting.
  • Full audit — action plan + all issues + linking + resources.
  • Technical hygiene (before / after) — the quantified progress between two crawls. Perfect for client tracking.
  • Semantic — the cocoon map + the internal links to create.
  • Resources & links — broken links by category.
🎨
White label. In 🎨 White label, set your logo, your colors, your agency name and hide the promotion. PDF reports then come out under your brand — client deliverables ready to present. (Paid-plan feature.)
8

Upload to the dashboard

From a crawl, Export ▾☁ Upload to dashboard sends the complete audit of that crawl (all pages, all fields, text included) to your online workspace. That's where the work continues: AI-assisted fixes, applying to the site (WordPress plugin, API), tracking.

Upload happens on demand, crawl by crawl — nothing leaves automatically. You decide what you send. Requires an activated license.
9

Plans

The crawl and all analyses run on your machine. Here's what each plan unlocks:

Tips & troubleshooting

"Block detected — X pages refused"

The site blocks bots (Cloudflare / firewall). Click "How to allow the crawl": the app gives you your IP and the User-Agent to whitelist on the site side. Two options — allow your IP, or the crawler's User-Agent. It's not an error on the pages.

"Throttled by the server (429 / 503)"

The target server rate-limited you (too many requests). It's not a broken link or page. Lower the Speed and Workers in , then restart more gently.

Few pages found

The site is probably rendered in JavaScript (Wix, React…). Enable JS rendering in and restart. It's slower, but the app then sees the real content.

"Crawl trap detected"

A single URL pattern repeated abnormally (endless pagination/filters). The app pauses the crawl and suggests a one-click exclusion rule — apply it and resume, or ignore it if those pages are legitimate.

I'm asked for the key again

The key is entered once, when the app opens. If it's refused, check the format (XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX) and that you're online (activation happens online). To switch PCs: 🔑 Sign inDeactivate this device.

Your data stays with you. The crawl runs on your computer — pages don't pass through any third-party service. You choose what you upload to your online workspace.
